I have a new medication. Having this medication means I'll be less likely to develop all sorts of chronic conditions, including infertility, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. How much? Well, the cheapest I've been able to find so far will set us back $160.00 a month. A MONTH! See, our student insurance offers no prescription coverage. Zip. Zero. And if I switched insurance companies, at this point this would definitely be a preexisting condition that wouldn't be covered for a year, anyway.
I know, check Canada. But to be honest, not having much luck on that front either. If anyone has any specific recommendations, I'd welcome them. Or, you can start the Nicole Medication Trust Fund.

I know that my medication costs about $400 dollars out of pocket each month, and that's without a husband or even student insurance to help me! Nada. I have the Bust-Your-Tail insurance policy.
Anyway, I've applied with the Perscription Assistence with the actual drug company. They are pistols about making sure your doctor has "original signatures" and everything, and you have to give a financial disclosure sheet, but they can send you your meds for completely free for up to 12 months. Unless..they are psych meds.... which, then... ethically no doctor will write you an RX for longer than three months total without being seen.
Anyway, good luck. I totally understand what you're going through.
Medicine is so expensive. I feel your pain about the student health insurance. We lived with it for three years before I was able to get it through my job. Perhaps you can get the medicine through your student health center? I'm sure it's a long shot but it's worth a try...
perscription assistence with the companies and that Montel Williams thing Perscription for America or something like that might be able to help. The only other assitence I could be to you is get friendly with a drug rep....they are always willing to give thier samples....if it si that kind of thing....also ask the dr. for samples....they get them all the time and NEVER want to give them out....maybe even the health department may be able to help you one way or another either by giving them or telling you how. Maybe you already knew all of this maybe not...
